The approval of manufacturer of materials is a means to certify the reliability of a manufacturer to produce materials in accordance with the classification requirements.

The purpose of the approval of manufacturer of materials is to certify his organization and manufacturing processes. This is a preliminary step for relevant product certification.
The certification has five year validity.
Which manufacturers is approval of manufacturer of materials applicable to?
Approval of manufacturer of materials is applicable, but not limited, to manufacturers of steel, aluminum and copper alloy castings, forgings and rolled products, as required by the classification requirements and or by the customer.
How to proceed?
The procedure consists of the following steps:
- Manufacturer's application
- Preliminary review of organizational documentation and description of production and testing process
- Execution of tests on materials according to a preliminary agreed plan at the presence of a RINA surveyor
- Review of the reports
- Issuance of RINA test certificate

Admission to alternative inspection schemes is a means to certify the reliability of a manufacturer to test products in accordance with the classification requirements.
What's the purpose of the admission to alternative inspection schemes?
The purpose of the admission to alternative inspection schemes is to be entitled to carry out test without the continuous presence of a RINA surveyor.
The certification has five year validity, and is subject to periodical assessment.
Which manufacturers is admission to alternative inspection schemes applicable to?
Admission to alternative inspection schemes is applicable to manufacturers who have a Quality System certified in accordance with ISO 9001 or equivalent standard and producing a subset of the products for which a test in the manufacturer's facilities is required by the classification requirements and or by the customer, prior of their on board installation (e.g. plates, sections, pipes, fittings, valves, pressure vessels, pumps, diesel engines, reduction gears, turbochargers, electrical motors, cables, switches and so on).

- Manufacturer's application
- Preliminary review of organizational documentation and description of production and testing process
- Initial admission audit at manufacturer's facilities
- Issuance of RINA statement of admission to an alternative inspection scheme
